| Results, testimonials and “specialist” claims | Marked D: we haven’t checked this state’s own text on results, testimonials and specialist claims, so the ABA Model Rule default applies until we do. In practice: results only if truthful and given in context; “certified specialist” only through an approved body that the ad names. ABA Model Rule 7.2 and its comments | D ABA model default |
| Referral services and lead generators | Marked D: the ABA Model Rule default applies until we check the state’s text. Lawyers may pay reasonable advertising costs and a qualified referral service’s usual charges, never for a recommendation; lead generators are allowed only if they don’t recommend the lawyer, imply a recommendation or split fees. | Ads in Spanish and other languages | No state rule on ads in other languages found in the sources reviewed. Our default applies: every required statement appears in each language the ad uses. CAMG white paper: Hawaii lawyer advertising rules | D ABA model default |

| Texting and telemarketing law | No state texting or telemarketing law with private suits found in the 2026 trackers. The federal TCPA applies; state no-call lists and registration may still apply, but callbacks to people who asked to be contacted are generally outside them. How we checked each rule
- P Primary source
- We read the rule, statute, court order, bar page or regulator page itself.
- S Secondary source
- A summary or quotation of the rule by a legal-marketing firm, law firm or tracker. We check it against the official text before relying on it for a client.
- D ABA model default
- The state’s own text isn’t checked yet, so the ABA Model Rule or our national default applies until it is.
- U Open question
- Unknown or unsettled; a lawyer must answer it.
Hawaii’s lawyer-advertising rules are brief, by our secondary source: no filing, a responsible lawyer named in each ad, and a 30-day waiting period. Its languages are unlike any other state’s. A quarter of residents speak a language other than English at home, and Spanish ranks behind Ilocano, Samoan and Hawaiian, Tagalog, Japanese and Chinese.
Not legal advice. Hawaii’s entries here come from secondary sources and the ABA model. The state’s highest court sets the rules; your lawyer should check each one.
Hawaii rules in plain English
Each rule shows its verification code: P for a primary source we read, S for a secondary summary, D for the ABA-model default (what the codes mean).
Filing, naming and the 30-day rule
No filing. Each ad names a responsible lawyer. Targeted contact about an injury waits 30 days.

Where the ABA model applies
Claims, referral payments and non-English ads are D. For a Hawaii firm, that means results with their facts and “certified specialist” only through a named body; vendors paid for advertising, never for recommendations (ABA Model Rule 7.2); and an Ilocano or Tagalog ad carrying its required statements in that language.
Recording, texting and privacy
One-party recording (S · guide); no texting statute with private suits in the trackers (D · tracker); no comprehensive privacy law (S · chart).

What this means for your SEO and ads in Hawaii
Plan languages from the Census, not from habit
Most states start a second-language program with Spanish. In Hawaii, Austronesian languages (8.6%), Tagalog (4.4%), Japanese (2.7%) and Chinese (2.6%) all come first, and between 43% and 60% of their speakers report limited English. A firm that wants to reach those communities needs native-written pages and intake that answers in the language, before any ad runs.
Islands, not metros
Urban Honolulu holds about two-thirds of residents and Kahului-Wailuku on Maui is the only other metro area. Firms serving the neighbor islands should set Business Profile service areas island by island and say plainly where the lawyers meet clients.
The 30-day rule and disasters
After a major accident or disaster, no targeted outreach to injured people for 30 days. Search and Local Services Ads answer people who are already looking and stay on.
A small field
Hawaii has 549 employer law firms (Census, 2022). With few competitors, local search rankings can move, but signed-case counts are small, so we show cost per case only for cuts with at least five.
