How we checked each rule

P Primary source
We read the rule, statute, court order, bar page or regulator page itself.
S Secondary source
A summary or quotation of the rule by a legal-marketing firm, law firm or tracker. We check it against the official text before relying on it for a client.
D ABA model default
The state’s own text isn’t checked yet, so the ABA Model Rule or our national default applies until it is.
U Open question
Unknown or unsettled; a lawyer must answer it.

Primary sources already verified in our earlier research (matrix code C6) show as P. The matrix code for every cell is kept in matrixCode.

Rules in every state

Federal rules apply on top of each state’s own.

Air and rail accidents P Primary source
No unsolicited contact about injury claims within 45 days after an air-carrier or passenger-rail accident, in every state.
Calls and texts P Primary source
Marketing calls and texts placed by autodialer, or with a prerecorded or artificial voice (AI voices included), need prior express written consent; opt-outs are honored within 10 business days.
Reviews and testimonials P Primary source
The FTC rule on consumer reviews and testimonials (16 CFR Part 465, in force since October 21, 2024) bans fake, bought and AI-generated reviews, undisclosed insider reviews and review suppression.
Google audiences P Primary source
Google bars remarketing, Customer Match and lookalike audiences in sensitive categories such as health and trauma. Conversion uploads for bidding remain allowed.
Local Services Ads P Primary source
Local Services Ads screen each lawyer’s bar license, and advertisers can’t sell or pass leads to other businesses. Since October 1, 2026, a business-hours missed call is billed as a lead when the caller stays on more than 20 seconds.
Language of search ads P Primary source
Since September 2026, Google no longer offers campaign language targeting on Search and Performance Max; ads serve by matching the language of the search to the language of the ad.
