How we checked each rule

P Primary source
We read the rule, statute, court order, bar page or regulator page itself.
S Secondary source
A summary or quotation of the rule by a legal-marketing firm, law firm or tracker. We check it against the official text before relying on it for a client.
D ABA model default
The state’s own text isn’t checked yet, so the ABA Model Rule or our national default applies until it is.
U Open question
Unknown or unsettled; a lawyer must answer it.

Rhode Island is small, but its language mix is wide. 14.2% of residents speak Spanish at home, and half of them (50.2%) report limited English, the third-highest share we track. Portuguese is next, at 2.9%, the second-highest share after Massachusetts. Its ad rules, by our secondary source, label testimonials and disclose paid or non-client endorsements; there’s no filing found, and a privacy law took effect in 2026.

What this means for your SEO and ads in Rhode Island

One metro, mostly shared with Massachusetts

Providence-Warwick is Rhode Island’s only metro area, and it reaches into southeastern Massachusetts, which requires all-party consent to record calls (Massachusetts). Open every tracked line with a recording notice, and target by presence when a campaign should stay in Rhode Island.

Labeled reviews

Review quotes on landing pages and in ads are testimonials. Label each one, and say if the person was paid or wasn’t a client. The FTC’s rule on fake and bought reviews applies too.

Spanish and Portuguese intake

With half of Spanish speakers reporting limited English, Spanish-speaking intake isn’t optional for an injury or immigration practice here. Portuguese (37.1% limited English), French and Haitian Creole follow.

Privacy at 35,000

A Providence firm with a busy site can cross the threshold. Consent before tags, and no injury details sent to ad platforms.
