How we checked each rule

P Primary source
We read the rule, statute, court order, bar page or regulator page itself.
S Secondary source
A summary or quotation of the rule by a legal-marketing firm, law firm or tracker. We check it against the official text before relying on it for a client.
D ABA model default
The state’s own text isn’t checked yet, so the ABA Model Rule or our national default applies until it is.
U Open question
Unknown or unsettled; a lawyer must answer it.

Utah simplified its lawyer-advertising rules on the ABA model in 2020, and by our secondary source the result has no filing, no explicit naming clause and no waiting period. In 2026 it also closed its legal-services sandbox, the program that let nonlawyer-owned providers test new services, to new applicants. Utah’s Spanish share, 11.6%, is higher than many expect, and highest in the Salt Lake City metro.

What this means for your SEO and ads in Utah

Light rules, our defaults

With no explicit naming clause, Utah ads have room. We still put the responsible lawyer and office city in each one, keep “specialist” for certified lawyers, and give results their facts.

The Wasatch Front

Salt Lake City, Provo-Orem-Lehi and Ogden hold most Utahns and form one continuous market along I-15. City pages and Business Profiles for each office matter more than one statewide page.

Spanish

The Salt Lake City metro’s Spanish share is 13.5%, and Provo-Orem-Lehi’s 11.5%. About 40% of Utah’s Spanish speakers report limited English. Portuguese (0.48%) and Austronesian languages such as Samoan (0.49%) are among the next languages, with most speakers fluent in English.

Privacy thresholds

Utah’s revenue test of $25 million keeps most firms outside the act, but consent-first tags and short forms are our practice anyway.

Logan reaches Idaho

The Logan metro includes part of southeast Idaho (Idaho).

Questions for your counsel

  • Does the 2020 text require a lawyer’s name or contact details in each ad?
  • Does the sandbox’s closing affect any vendors or partners the firm works with?

How Probative works in Utah
