| Results, testimonials and “specialist” claims | Marked D: we haven’t checked this state’s own text on results, testimonials and specialist claims, so the ABA Model Rule default applies until we do. In practice: results only if truthful and given in context; “certified specialist” only through an approved body that the ad names. ABA Model Rule 7.2 and its comments | D ABA model default |
| Referral services and lead generators | Marked D: the ABA Model Rule default applies until we check the state’s text. Lawyers may pay reasonable advertising costs and a qualified referral service’s usual charges, never for a recommendation; lead generators are allowed only if they don’t recommend the lawyer, imply a recommendation or split fees. ABA Model Rule 7.2 and its comments | D ABA model default |
| Ads in Spanish and other languages | No state rule on ads in other languages found in the sources reviewed. Our default applies: every required statement appears in each language the ad uses. CAMG white paper: Indiana lawyer advertising rules | D ABA model default |
| Call-recording consent | One-party consent: a person on the call may record it. Recording laws by state, 2026 guide | S Secondary source |
| Texting and telemarketing law | No state texting or telemarketing law with private suits found in the 2026 trackers. The federal TCPA applies; state no-call lists and registration may still apply, but callbacks to people who asked to be contacted are generally outside them. State mini-TCPA tracker, July 2026 · 47 CFR 64.1200, the federal TCPA rules | D ABA model default |
| Privacy and health-data law | The Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act (2026) covers controllers that process data of 100,000+ consumers, or 25,000+ with half their revenue from selling data. State privacy law comparison chart, updated October 8, 2026 | S Secondary source |
How we checked each rule
- P Primary source
- We read the rule, statute, court order, bar page or regulator page itself.
- S Secondary source
- A summary or quotation of the rule by a legal-marketing firm, law firm or tracker. We check it against the official text before relying on it for a client.
- D ABA model default
- The state’s own text isn’t checked yet, so the ABA Model Rule or our national default applies until it is.
- U Open question
- Unknown or unsettled; a lawyer must answer it.
Indiana files lawyer solicitations, not ads: a targeted letter or message is filed at or before sending, for $50, and kept for six years. For a firm running search, social and Local Services Ads, the rules that matter more are a 30-day waiting period, a privacy law that took effect in 2026, and four of the six largest metros reaching into Illinois, Ohio, Kentucky or Michigan.
Not legal advice. We haven’t read Indiana’s own rules yet; this page relies on published summaries and the ABA model. Confirm with counsel first.
Indiana rules in plain English
Each rule shows its verification code: P for a primary source we read, S for a secondary summary, D for the ABA-model default (what the codes mean).
Filing: solicitations only
Ads aren’t filed. Targeted solicitations are filed at or before sending, $50, and kept 6 years.
Verification: S · CAMG white paper: Indiana
Content and timing
Name and office address in each ad. Targeted contact about an injury waits 30 days.

Defaults
Claims, referral payments and non-English ads rest on the ABA model (D) until Indiana’s text is checked: results with context, a named certifier for “certified specialist”, no payment for recommendations or fee splits (ABA Model Rule 7.2), and required statements in each language used.
Recording, texting and privacy
One-party recording (S · guide). No texting law with private suits in the trackers (D · tracker). The Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act (2026) covers controllers that process the data of 100,000 or more consumers, or 25,000 or more with half their revenue from selling data (S · chart).

What this means for your SEO and ads in Indiana
Inbound means nothing to file
Search ads, Local Services Ads, Maps and replies to form fills aren’t targeted solicitations, so a firm working inbound has no Indiana filing. Letters to people named in crash reports would be, with the $50 filing, the 6-year record and the 30-day wait; we don’t send them.
Four metros, five states
- Northwest Indiana is in the Chicago metro, and Illinois requires all-party consent to record and limits “expert” to real awards (Illinois).
- Southeast Indiana sits in the Cincinnati metro with Ohio and Kentucky (Ohio, Kentucky).
- Southern Indiana is part of Louisville’s metro, centered in Kentucky.
- South Bend-Mishawaka reaches Michigan, where ads under a trade name or phone number name a lawyer (Michigan).
Only Indianapolis and Fort Wayne among the top six are wholly inside Indiana. Target by presence in Indiana unless the firm is ready for the neighbor’s rules.
Privacy since 2026
The 100,000-consumer threshold is high for a single firm, but website visitors count. Keep tags behind consent and send ad platforms nothing about injuries.
