Results, testimonials and “specialist” claims Marked D: we haven’t checked this state’s own text on results, testimonials and specialist claims, so the ABA Model Rule default applies until we do. In practice: results only if truthful and given in context; “certified specialist” only through an approved body that the ad names. ABA Model Rule 7.2 and its comments D ABA model default
Referral services and lead generators Marked D: the ABA Model Rule default applies until we check the state’s text. Lawyers may pay reasonable advertising costs and a qualified referral service’s usual charges, never for a recommendation; lead generators are allowed only if they don’t recommend the lawyer, imply a recommendation or split fees. Privacy and health-data law Act 145 takes effect January 1, 2028: controllers that process data of 35,000+ consumers, or 3,000+ for sensitive data or sales; consumer health data is covered with no threshold. How we checked each rule

P Primary source
We read the rule, statute, court order, bar page or regulator page itself.
S Secondary source
A summary or quotation of the rule by a legal-marketing firm, law firm or tracker. We check it against the official text before relying on it for a client.
D ABA model default
The state’s own text isn’t checked yet, so the ABA Model Rule or our national default applies until it is.
U Open question
Unknown or unsettled; a lawyer must answer it.

Vermont is a one-metro state: Burlington-South Burlington is its only metro area, with about 230,000 people. Its ad rules, by our secondary source, are minimal, and it has no general recording statute. The change to plan for is Act 145, a privacy law starting January 1, 2028 with a 3,000-consumer trigger for sensitive data and no threshold at all for consumer health data.

Not legal advice. We haven’t read Vermont’s own rules yet; this page relies on published summaries and the ABA model. Confirm with counsel first.

What this means for your SEO and ads in Vermont

Get ready for 2028 now

Injury details can be health data, and Act 145 covers consumer health data at any size from 2028. Intake forms that ask only what’s needed, consent before any tag, and nothing about injuries sent to platforms will already meet the spirit of it; counsel confirms the rest before the date.

Recording notices anyway

With no general statute, the practice is one-party. Callers from New Hampshire, an all-party state, reach Vermont firms too (New Hampshire), so every tracked line opens with a notice.

A small, rural market

Outside Burlington, Vermont has no metro areas. A firm’s Business Profile, service-area settings and phone intake carry most of its local search, and signed-case counts are small, so we show costs only for cuts with five or more cases.

Languages

French is the most common language after English and Spanish (1.2%), and most of its speakers speak English “very well”. Nepali, Marathi and other Indic languages (0.28%) have a 60.9% limited-English share.
