Rankings can hold while clicks fall. Where a page kept its place in the results, click-through still dropped by 55% across all queries. Visitors who arrive from an AI assistant act at 3.5× the rate of visitors from organic search, and 75–100% of AI-assistant visits come from the largest assistant.

AI answers and organic search clicks
| What is measured | Published figure |
|---|---|
| Drop in click-through where ranking held: all queries | 55% |
| Action rate of AI-assistant visitors divided by organic visitors | 3.5× |
| Share of AI-assistant visits from the largest assistant | 75–100% |
What does this mean for your firm?
- Expect fewer clicks from the same rankings, and judge search by signed clients, not by clicks.
- Give visitors from AI assistants their own line in your report. They act more often than other visitors.
- Make sure the assistants can read your practice pages, so the visitors who do arrive land on a page built for an action.
What should a firm do about it?
The drop in clicks is a reason to count outcomes. Track calls, forms and signed clients by where the visitor came from, and compare AI-assistant visitors with organic visitors using the action rate. An assistant that names your practice may send fewer visitors who are more ready to act, and only your own numbers will show whether that is true for you.
How do I read this table?
The drop is measured only where ranking held, so it separates the effect of answers from the effect of a lower position. Action rate is the share of visitors who take an action on the page, and the third row divides the rate of AI-assistant visitors by the rate of organic visitors. Three rows are rounded to the nearest five points or the nearest half, and one is a band.
The figures are bands and tiers, so treat each as approximate, plus or minus one step. How the benchmarks are made and protected.
