Business law SEO helps the right owner find your firm when they search by the problem, and helps them confirm you after a referral. We build pages for each dispute or deal, keep your profiles accurate, publish guides worth forwarding, and check what AI assistants say about you. We judge the work by retained matters (clients who signed your engagement letter), counted in your own records.

What do owners search before they hire a business lawyer?

They search in two ways. Some type the problem: partner dispute lawyer, breach of contract lawyer, commercial lease review. Others type a name they were given, plus your city. Both lead to your site, your profile and your reviews, so all three have to agree.

Search type Example What the page must do
The problem, urgent my business partner is taking money, customer will not pay invoice Say who you act for and what the first call covers
The deal, planned buying a company, shareholder agreement, LLC operating agreement Explain the steps and what you need from the client
The contract review a vendor contract, noncompete for employees Show the kinds of terms you review
A name firm name plus city, or lawyer name Match the profile, bio and reviews
Weighing firms business litigation attorney near me Show real experience without hype

The table shows that most business searches are about a problem or a name, so pages built around one problem do more than a general page.

How should the pages be organized?

  • One page per matter type that you want more of: partner and shareholder disputes, contract disputes, trade secrets, formations, sales and purchases, commercial leases, employment agreements for employers.
  • One page per industry you know, only if the lawyer behind it really works with that industry.
  • Lawyer bio pages that describe real matters in general terms. Never name a client, and never imply a result.
  • Plain endings. Each page says what happens on the first call and that a conflict check comes first.

We write these pages from your lawyers’ notes and review them with you. Google treats many near-identical pages made to rank as spam, so we do not make swap-the-industry copies.

How do you describe expertise without breaking a rule?

Describe the work, not a title. California’s rule on specialist claims reads that A lawyer shall not state that the lawyer is a certified specialist in a particular field of law, unless certified. Another state’s rule is shown on the lawyer advertising rules by state page. Our pages use sentences like “we represent business owners in partner disputes,” and your ethics counsel approves the wording. This is not legal advice.

How does a Business Profile help a business practice?

Your profile is the first thing a referred owner checks. Keep the name, address, phone and hours exact. Google says a rented mailing address that is a virtual office is not eligible for a Business Profile. If you plan to run Local Services ads, Google says Local Services advertisers must have a public and verified Google Business Profile to advertise with Local Services Ads. See local SEO for the full setup.

What about LinkedIn and directories?

Partners often use LinkedIn to vet each other. A LinkedIn profile listing only education and jobs is not an ad, but adding practice areas, skills or endorsements likely makes it one; lawyers must remove inaccurate endorsements. We keep profiles consistent with the website and flag them for your counsel. For directories, we list the ones a client would plausibly use and compare them to the guide to lawyer directories.

What do executives ask AI assistants, and what can we do?

They ask who to hire, how a dispute works, and what a clause means. In one 2026 consumer survey, 41.9% said they would use ChatGPT to research a lawyer, and that survey was of consumers, not executives, so treat it as a sign and not a measure. Google is plain on the basics: There are no additional requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode, nor other special optimizations necessary. So the work is the same: accurate pages, clear authorship, consistent profiles. We track what assistants say about you each month and log errors. See AI search.

Which searches show that someone is ready to hire a business lawyer?

A ready owner types a nearby firm, a fee question, whether a lawyer is needed, a consultation, or a live problem. Guides that explain a term mostly earn links and citations. These decision pages earn calls. Build the problem page first, then the fee page, then a first-call page that says a conflict check comes first.

Search kind Page that answers it What a visitor needs to see before calling
Near me or in a city: business lawyer in [city] Office page and Business Profile The matters you take, hours, and who answers
Cost or fees: how much does a business lawyer cost Fee page How you bill (hourly, flat, retainer) and what a retainer covers
Do I need a lawyer: do I need a lawyer to buy a business Plain comparison page Where a lawyer matters and where a template may do
Free consultation: free consultation business attorney First-call page Free or paid, how long, and that a conflict check comes first
What to bring or what happens next: what to bring to a business lawyer Checklist page The agreements, ownership records and invoices, plus the names of every other party
A scenario: my partner is locking me out of the company Situation page Who you act for, what the first call covers, and the next step today

Many owners also search by a name from an accountant, a banker or LinkedIn, so the bio and profile pages must match what the referrer said. On the first call, a conflict check compares the names involved with your current and past clients. Ask visitors to have the company name, the owners and the other side ready.

Which scenario searches can a firm win against the directories?

Directories and aggregators own the broadest terms, such as business lawyer plus a city. A firm wins on specific situations, where today’s answer is often a thin or old page. Also keep every directory and Business Profile listing complete and identical, so owners find the firm through them too.

  • A partner wants out and the operating agreement is silent
  • A customer owes an unpaid invoice, in your county court
  • A former employee took customers and files
  • A commercial lease with a personal obligation, before signing
  • Buy-sell terms after a co-owner dies or divorces
  • A vendor contract that renews on its own

Compare lawyer directories before you pay for a listing, and set up your Business Profile fully.

Why write business law pages natively in Spanish?

Many owners speak Spanish at home and have limited English, and few lawyers serve them in Spanish. Write the key pages natively, not as a translation, and add a Spanish description to your Business Profile. Statements must match the language of the ad: Florida and Nevada require required statements in each language of the ad. See Spanish marketing.

How we measure it

The monthly report shows retained matters on four lines: non-brand search, brand search, your Business Profile and AI assistants, with brand never credited to SEO. Each matter is marked tracked or self-reported, and valued from your own fees.

What this means for your firm

  • Build a page for each problem you want more of, not one page about everything.
  • Keep your profiles and bios exact, and run expertise wording past counsel.
  • Judge SEO by retained matters from your records, with brand searches on their own line.

The paid side is on business law ads, and the overview is on business and commercial law. For the first call, see intake and conflicts. Start with a free video review of your site and profile. Also see law firm SEO.

The other half: business and commercial law ads

  • Ads, search and social

    Business and commercial law ads

Google and Microsoft search ads, Google’s Local Services Ads, Meta, YouTube and ChatGPT, judged on the new clients they bring in.

Questions firms ask

How many pages does a business practice need?

One for each problem you want more of, and none for work you do not take. Start with the three or four matters that pay best, such as partner disputes or contract claims, and add more only when each new page has something new to say.

Do guides help a firm that wins work by referral?

Yes, in a quiet way. A referred owner usually checks you online before calling. A clear guide on a deal or dispute shows how you think, and gives the person who referred you something to forward. We measure it by retained matters, not page views.

Can a lawyer's LinkedIn page be treated as advertising?

It can. A New York County opinion says a profile with only education and jobs is not an ad, but adding practice areas, skills or endorsements likely makes it one. Ask your ethics counsel before changing profiles across the firm.

Should we list our firm in business directories?

Only where the listing is accurate and a client would plausibly use it. Check each directory's terms, and avoid any that charge for a rating or recommendation. Keep the firm's name, address and phone number identical everywhere.

How do we find out if ChatGPT recommends us?

Ask it the questions an owner would ask, in your city and for your matter types, and write down what it says. We repeat this each month, log anything wrong, and fix the pages and profiles it draws from. We cannot promise a mention.

Step 2 of 2. Where should we send the video for your site?

We use this to send your video and to reply to you.

We use what you send to reply and to send a few short follow-up emails (unsubscribe any time). To learn which of our ads work, we tell Google, Microsoft and Meta that a request came in, with the ad you clicked (if any) and a hashed copy of your email and phone (a code the platforms can still match to you), never your message. Never sold, never added to lists. Global Privacy Control or an email to us turns this off. By sending this form you agree to our privacy policy.
