Criminal defense marketing: the full picture
How we help criminal defense firms get chosen in search and AI answers and run ads that bring signed clients.
Criminal defense · Arizona
People search the night of an arrest or a stop, or a relative does it for them. Parts of Arizona, including Greenlee County, have no private law office at all. Below: Arizona’s ad rules for a criminal defense firm and the local figures behind them.
We would start with Search, because arrest-night searches are urgent, so search ads and a fast phone come first: $3,750 a month with managed ad spend up to $15k (every price).
We would point the first pages, map listings and ad locations at Maricopa County and Pima County, which see the most deadly crashes with an alcohol-impaired driver, a rough map of where impaired-driving arrests cluster.
The closest case study: A legal-services launch cuts what each new client costs in half.
Criminal defense is a named sensitive category, so audience tools are limited and no ad should hint that the viewer is accused.
Arizona adds its own layer to the Google, Local Services and Meta criminal defense rules: ad filing is listed as no filing, and what every ad must show is listed as name plus contact details. The platform rules themselves are on the ads page and the policy tracker.
Start with the metro pages: Phoenix law firm SEO, AI search and Google Ads. Spanish-speaking demand and the full Arizona rules are on the Arizona rules page.
These are the court and statute rules that decide how fast intake must move and what a signed matter can be. Check current text with your own counsel.
3 of Arizona’s 15 counties have fewer than 1 private law office per 10,000 residents, and 1 has none (first quarter of 2026); 8.0% of residents live in a county under that line. The county with no private law office is Greenlee County (9,312 residents).

What this means for a criminal defense firm in Arizona: In thin counties such as Greenlee County, families there search for a lawyer who will drive to the county courthouse, so name those courthouses on the site.

About 436,583 people in Arizona speak Spanish at home and English less than very well (±6,392), and about 1,729 lawyers, judges and judicial workers speak Spanish at home (±388). That is roughly 253 such residents for each Spanish-speaking lawyer, against 257 nationally (ACS 2020-2024).
What this means for a criminal defense firm in Arizona: Arizona has one of the widest gaps in the country between Spanish speakers with limited English and lawyers who speak Spanish, so a Spanish line that answers at night and Spanish pages for the common charges put a criminal defense firm in front of people most competitors cannot serve.

Arizona admitted 965 new lawyers in 2025, and 64.6% of the people who sat the bar exam that year passed. Admissions by exam or transferred score rose 5.1% from 2021 to 2025.
What this means for a criminal defense firm in Arizona: A steady flow of new lawyers in Arizona means new criminal defense competitors every year, many starting with a website and ads; a firm’s reviews and track record are the edge they lack.

Arizona had 3,928 private law offices in the first quarter of 2026, 5.15 for every 10,000 residents against 5.63 nationally: the 31st-highest rate of the 50 states and DC. The count was up 1.0% from a year earlier.
What this means for a criminal defense firm in Arizona: Fewer offices per resident than the national rate leaves room in Arizona: a criminal defense firm that shows up in the map results, with being reachable at night, a clear page for each charge and fast callbacks, can stand out quickly.

What these figures leave out: counts offices, not lawyers or legal aid; survey estimates with margins; judges are counted with lawyers; admissions, not lawyers who practice in the state; counts offices, not lawyers; BLS withholds some county figures. Corrections log.
Criminal clients call at night, scared, often through a family member. In month one, set up a line that reaches a person at all hours, and write a short script that asks about the charge, the court, the next hearing and whether the person is in custody. Build pages for DUI, drug charges and assault, plus one for each court area such as Phoenix, Mesa, Glendale, Tucson and Chandler. Explain plainly that a first DUI can carry jail time and that a judge has some room, without promising anything. Write Spanish pages for the same topics. Finish your Google profile. Ads carry the firm name and contact details. Arizona is a one-party consent state, so set your recording policy before the first call.
In months two and three, track signed clients only, once per matter, from your own intake records. Note the charge type and whether the person came from a DUI page, a court page, a Spanish page or a referral. Record how long each caller waited for a human voice, since callers who wait call the next firm. Cut pages that attract people looking to clear old cases if you do not take that work. Cut broad ad terms that bring in students and news readers. Keep the DUI and charge pages that produced signed matters. Review lost calls weekly and ask why each did not sign. If you text, follow the state rules and keep consent notes.
