API reference for the open data

Probative’s data is published as static JSON and CSV files: no key, no sign-up and no usage cap. This page lists every file, generated from the same OpenAPI description the API serves.

How it works

Every request is a GET of a static file. There is no key and no account, and CORS is open to any website.
Every JSON file starts with a meta object: the credit line, the suggested citation, the DOI, the version, the CC BY 4.0 license, the disclaimer and the page to cite.
A file that does not exist answers 404. Paths start with /data/v1/: the version is in the path, and a breaking change would get a new one.
The files change with each dataset release; confirmed changes are in the feed and in each dataset’s changes.json.

To build on the data, start from the API root: it lists every dataset with its version and DOI, so a script can find new releases without guessing file names. Cache the files you use, read the meta object before the records, and cite the dataset page that the meta object names.

You may reuse the data, commercially too, under CC BY 4.0 with credit and a link. The exact credit line is in every file’s meta and in README.txt.
